Rockridge Venture Law
a 2018 and 2019 B- Corp Best for the World Honoree.
Every year, B Lab recognizes the top-performing B-Corps creating the greatest impact through their businesses. Honorees are recognized for having the highest environmental, community, customer, worker and overall impact by earning a score in the top 10% on the B Impact Assessment, as well as a list recognising B Corps with the greatest impact improvement (the changemakers).
Through our GIVE-10 mantra, we give at least 10% of our revenue and time to environmental and social impact organizations.
Here are some of our community partners:
American Alpine Club
You can read more about our work supporting AAC researchers here.
Federal and state funding for ecological and environmental research is dwindling, and we believe it is important for the private sector to step in to fill in the gaps. That’s why we are excited to join the National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL), FOURPOINTS®, and KAVU® in support of the American Alpine Club’s Research Grant Program. The American Alpine Club is a nonprofit organization that advocates for the endurance of America’s wild spaces. Their Research Grant Program funds scientific endeavors in mountain environments around the world, and has led to better understanding of sensitive ecosystems and improved recreation policies on public lands.
Mustard Seed Ranch
Mustard Seed Ranch (MSR) is a community-sponsored, interdenominational Christian ministry designed to take children out of unsafe environments and into loving, nurturing homes.
In 2017 and 2018 we sponsored the Mustard Seed for Mayhem event at Rich Froning’s Crossfit Mayhem.
Mustard Seed Ranch (MSR) is a community-sponsored, interdenominational Christian ministry designed to take children out of unsafe environments and into loving, nurturing homes. Out of the social, emotional, intellectual and spiritual support each child receives, seeds of hope begin to take root. In time, each child becomes empowered to overcome limiting cycles of behavior and replace them with an understanding of God’s abundant purpose for their life.
Living Lands and Waters
In 2018, we adopted the Calfkiller River through the Adopt a River Mile program of Living Lands and Waters. Since adoption, we’ve cleared over 2 tons of refuse from the river and its banks, encouraging recreational use and strengthening the local ecosystem.
Our additional community impact partners include IMPACT Cookeville, GreenSpaces, Friends of Virgin Falls, and Friends of the Smokies.
What is a B-Corp?
Certified B Corps meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose.
The traditional corporate structure is obligated to shareholder primacy; that is, the legal pressure to elevate shareholder wealth as the primary and, in many cases, the only objective of a business, often in turn sacrificing important social and environmental responsibilities. We’ve chosen to operate differently by defining success within a business model that recognizes social, environmental, and financial accounting metrics, i.e., a triple bottom line approach. We’re proud to have entered a global movement along the likes of Patagonia, Warby Parker, New Belgium Brewing, and Ben & Jerry’s to be the change we want to see.
A Certified B Corp® is a legally structured benefit company that has been rigorously vetted for endorsement by the nonprofit B Lab®. B Lab sets and enforces standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency for companies around the world. It’s like Fair Trade certification but for the whole business, not just a bag of coffee (or USDA Organic certification, but not just for a carton of milk; or LEED certification, but not just for a building).
Certified B Corps meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose. B Corp Certification doesn’t just evaluate a product or service, it assesses the overall positive impact of the company that stands behind it. Using the B Impact Assessment, B Lab evaluates how a company’s operations and business model impact its workers, community, environment, and customers. To achieve the B Corp Certification, a company must achieve a score of at least 80 points on the assessment. For our 2019 recertification Impact Makers scored a 114.4 – check out our B Impact Report.
B Corps from 44 countries were named to the 2019 Best For The World lists, including Patagonia, Beautycounter, Dr. Bronner’s, TOMS, Seventh Generation, and Greyston Bakery. The 2019 Best For The World honorees are determined based on the verified B Impact Assessments of Certified B Corporations. The full lists are available on https://bcorporation.net/.
Best for the World
To earn placement on the Best for the World: Community list, honorees score in the top 10 percent of B Corps in the Governance section of the B Impact Assessment. This section evaluates a company’s overall mission, ethics, accountability and transparency. It measures whether the company has adopted a social or environmental mission, and how it engages its employees, board members, and the community to achieve that mission. The Community portion also assesses charitable giving, investment in diversity, and educational opportunities.
